The Bachir Lebanese alphabet was actually created on August 1, 2010. It consists of 24 letters.
The letters are the following:
Note that
P,
V and
X do not occur in Lebanese and that
J is not used. Instead, only
G is used, since
G and
J have the same sound in lebanese.
I like it!
ReplyDeleteBut I have a question, is there a letter for each of the two different sounds: "j" (like jem3a) and "gh" (like ghadda)?
In this alphabet, G has the sound /j/ like in jeemԑa while Ġ (with a dot) has the sound /gh/ like in ġada.
ReplyDeleteHowever, this is the old alphabet. The new alphabet removes all letters with diacritics and introduces both Greek and Cyrillic letters. In the new alphabet, G has been replaced by J and G has been replaced by the letter Φ (φada).
